Home England MTC

Home England MTC
Sister Hall, Elder Hansen and Elder Huhtala

Home MTC is a process. I think it's a blessing for the families and the missionaries to bring a bit of the mission home before going to the MTC, but it can honestly be quite difficult. However, to those planning to go on a mission, do not let that be a deterrent. Yes, you are in front of a computer for a while of the day. Yes, if your MTC is in a foreign country, the typical mission schedule is flipped on its head. But your district. Oh, your district. That is one of your strongest sources of strength. I'll be honest, there are not a lot of missionaries called to Greece. However, I do not say that to boast. I say that because there literally isn't.

My district consists of 5 people, including myself. I did not know this, but I guess that is considered a small district. We have two teachers, Brother Turner and Sister Campbell. I get along a bit better with Sister Campbell, I think since we're the only two in my district to have grown up in the states.

Across the 5 of us, there are a number of languages that make their appearances in our conversations. English is what the class is taught in and we study Greek of course.
Elder Huhtala speaks Finnish(natively), Swedish, and English.
Elder Morgan speaks Norwegian(lives in Norway), I believe Swedish, and English(natively). Honestly though, he speaks a bit of everything because he intends to study linguistics.
Sister Hall speaks Dutch(Natively), and English.
Elder Pettittt speaks French(Natively), and English. We are very lucky we all have experience with English.

As you may have noticed, I said there are 5 missionaries in my district. I am not mistaken, and you are not mistaken in thinking this should be an even number, given missionaries, "go by two". Sister Hall's companion apparently had visa problems, so that sister has been re-assigned until she can get her visa approved. Sooo Elder Huhtala and I have the unique opportunity to be companions with a sister. Apparently this is a rare situation, but it's not as weird as I originally thought. Especially with us being online. Often we find ourselves accidentally saying, "Elder Hall", which we felt bad about until she called herself "Elder Hall" today. It's been a blessing I think because we have more diverse thoughts with the 3 of us as a companionship instead of two. I believe God has a way of blessing the MTC, because I get along with Elder Huhtala, who will be my official companion at the MTC. We have differences but similarities enough to have fun conversations. I think we are all struggling with Greek. It might be because I can only see my own perspective, but I feel I am struggling the most with it. I've been trying to practice, but it kind of comes slow. We'll get there though.
